Minecraft Hoenn: Part 17/43: Route 113 and Fallarbor Town

Part 17/43 of the creation of the Hoenn Region in Minecraft.

The time has come to post another update. Route 113 and Fallarbor Town are both unique in that Route 113 is the only route covered in ash and Fallarbor Town is the only agricultural town in Hoenn. This part was a bit of a challenge. It took three tries to get Route 113 right. Fallarbor Town however I got right the first time. It is also the first time I've cloned buildings from one city to another to save time. But other than that everything is perfect now. Almost at the halfway point.

Route 113 connects Route 111 to Fallarbor Town. It is unique in that is is entirely covered in ash, the only route in Hoenn to do so. But instead of ash I've used Mycelium. Why would you use a fungus in place of ash? I hear you asking, well, crucially Mycelium looks like ash. As there is no ash in game I has to substitute.

The base of land measures 200x40 blocks. It's currently grass but that will soon change.

Mycelium looks like ash, right? Well I think so. Mycelium is that stand in for the ash that has been deposited by Mt Chimney.

But unfortunately grass does not grow on Mycelium. Therefore some patches will be coarse dirt. It may make the route look patchy in some places but it's better to have some grass than no grass at all.

The Mycelium ground covering doesn't start for a few blocks in on the eastern side. And after marking out and replacing the rest of the land with Mycelium it was time to decorate.

I deleted my screenshots of the first and second attempts as they were shocking. Everything was out of alignment. So then I really got my head into it and carefully added all the features block by block. It was time consuming but I was much less likely to make a mistake this time.

Gravel represents where the coarse dirt for the grass will go. And the sand represents the border of the Acacia tree's.

The grass isn't ash covered like in the Gameboy game but just imagine that all the ash has already been collected with the soot sack to make a nice flute or something.

Acacia tree's match the quirky style of tree's as seen in the Gameboy game on Route 113.

Every thing is taking shape.

This is where the  Glass Workshop is. In the Gameboy game, players can use the ash they collected to have someone make various types of flutes that can cause Pokemon to wake up or make wile Pokemon less likely to appear.

Here is some farmland. I knew nothing about farms in Minecraft so I originally decided to place the water under the dirt that will be ploughed to grow some wheat. But that didn't work. You're probably laughing at me now.

After looking at how to make a farm I came up with this solution. Place water on the same level as the dirt. Duh!

Then plant seeds.

Then take screenshots of Route 113 again. Below is before the sand was removed.

And after the sand is removed.

And now. It's finished.

FALLARBOR TOWN
Fallarbor Town is a small town in northern hoenn. It looks like a lifeless aftermath of a volcano eruption but is in fact a thriving agricultural town. Fallarbor Town has no gym but is does have a Super rank Contest Hall.

Fallarbor Town measures 40x40 blocks so it isn't a large place. There are only 5 buildings.

I thought I'd try and copy the buildings I've build before in an attempt to save time. You may notice a flating contest hall and foyer in the background. That's just a template for the remaining contest halls and won't be available in the final release.

Tree's. Tree's everywhere.

The houses were copies of the Glass Workshop on Route 113. But the roofs and interiors have been changed to reflect the design as seen in Fallarbor Town.

The interiors have been changed too. This is the inside of the Move Tutor's house.

And before you can say pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis Fallarbor town is complete.

Ahh.

Minecraft Hoenn: Part 16/43: Lavaridge Town

Part 16/43 of the creation of the Hoenn Region in Minecraft.

Another part, another town. This time it's Lavaridge town. Lavaridge town sits south of Mt Chimney. Unique features in Lavaridge town include the Hot Springs and the Pokemon Herb Shop. The local gym leader Flannery specialises in fire-type Pokemon. Lavaridge Town is quite a small town at a higher than usual altitude for a normal city or town.

LAVARIDGE TOWN
Lavaridge Town is a small town with a Pokemon Centre, Pokemon Mart and a Gym. The complexity is quite low as Lavaridge Town is a small and simple place.
(Image sourced from Bulbapedia)

Lavaridge Town is surrounded by the red rocks of Mt Chimney. Vein's of lava run underneath the town that provide a natural heat source (not included here).

Rather quickly the Pokemon Centre, Mart and Gym were erected. They are standard buildings so they were just copied from other locales.

Lavaridge Town. Now with hot springs.

GYM
This is the Lavaridge Gym. This Gym specialises in Fire type Pokemon. Unlike other gyms there was enough space to upgrade to a 2:1 scale interior. The same scale as outside buildings.  Previous gyms have been 1:1 scale. I think I ought to upgrade all gyms to 2:1 scale before release. It feels so much better.

Like all gyms it's been built underground. Just like Fiery path (and all the other gyms) it sticks out from the boundaries set for the town.

This gym is two levels. The top level has trainers hidden in holes in the floor plus some of these holes the player will fall through to the floor underneath. From there they can use launch pads to launch themselves up the the top floor again.

Here is the top floor (below).

And here is the bottom floor (below). In an effort to prevent those horrible bats from spawning I placed what I thought would be a decent amount of torches but it wasn't enough.

And sure enough those pesky bats appeared.

I used MCEdit to insert the netherrack floors in. This also introduced air blocks to substitute the water. This meant that the water blocks didn't update when I reloaded the save game. It was fine until I placed a block right next to the water block. This updated the water block and subsequently, every other water block. The result, the whole lower floor flodded. It was quite spectacular to watch though.

The walls and ledges are starting to form.

I'm not sure how to create teleportation pads so instead I've built ladders in for the player to climb up.

The ladders are completely hidden on the top floor. Not all the holes have ladders that lead back up to the top floor. Some holes are trick's. depositing you in a place that would be of no benefit to your progression through the gym.

Now all that needs to be done is the lighting and the walls.

The walls are 100% real digital clay! The ceiling lights are 100% real glowstone!

And the gym is now 100% complete!
This is the bottom floor. The birch stairs are a stand in for the ledges that are in Lavaridge Gym. The ladder that is facing the back of the gym is the other way around because if it was the correct way round it would be quite easy to circumvent the ledge.

Here is the top floor. This is the first area the player walks into.

And here is where the Gym leader should be. Reaching this room is the main goal of the Gym's maze.

POKEMON HERB SHOP
The Pokemon Herb Shop sells bitter medicines that make your Pokemon less friendly. But their products do seem to be good value. The Pokemon Herb Shop looks just like a normal house but with a Pokemon Mart style interior.

The house on the left is the Pokemon Herb Shop. The house on the right is just a house.

The interior of the house that is just a house.

And the interior of the house that is actually a herb shop. It has a counter and everything.

FINISHED PRODUCT
Lavaridge Town was an easy and simple town to produce. All the buildings are designs that have been built before in previous cities.

The rest of the images are self explanatory. Enjoy!
