10 parts to go. Only 10. Now I'm going to try and get this project done sometime in early march. The next few parts are mostly routes and small towns. Sootopolis city in this project is the last major city and the last to have a Pokemon mart and a Gym all in the same city. Only one more cave, Victory road, remains to be built. Two more small cities, Evergrande City and Pacifidlog Town. However, 7 more routes remain. In Part 39 though three routes get constructed. And the terrain fill in with all the gaps will take days of work.
But anyway, Sootopolis City. This is a city that is built inside a giant crater and can only be accessed by diving underwater or flying through the air. I could have built this in less time but I didn't because I have a habit on not working on this project for 2 or 3 days after making an update. Well, that will be changing. I've told myself to spend some time on it tomorrow and every day when I can in order to meet the mid march deadline.
SOOTOPOLIS CITY
(Image sourced from Bulbapedia)
Sootopolis City is a city within a partially flooded crater. It is the only Pokemon city that the player must use HM 'Dive' to access it for the first time. It is also the first city in this project to have all the surrounding scenery in place.
Of course anything that will reside in the ocean will have the water cleared where it will be built. Sootopolis City will take up all the space available. Why? Well just as the interior of the average Pokemon house is much larger than the exterior, the same can be said here. Sootopolis City in the Pokemon game is bigger on the inside than on the outside.
It didn't really matter there the gym went as long it was in the center on the Y axis and close to the southern point on the X axis. This forms the first reference point for everything else.
Now you may be looking at this and thinking 'Wait, isn't it suppose to be like, really pale and white?' Yes it is. The grass is there like a big block of clay. It will get carved away and sandstone will be crusted over.
'Wait. You're still using grass!' Yes. Only because it's easy to differentiate grass from everything else. The big walls are sandstone and look quite boring at the moment. Don't worry though. It gets better.
Every new layer has been put on top of the grass that made up the layer below.
Pokemon Centre and Pokemon Mart both in their correct positions.
Layering.
And layering.
and layering...
and layering.
and layering.
and layering...
Alright. The outside of Sootopolis city looked quite boring until I brushed out some random patterns around the exterior. I don't know about you but it just adds something to look at.
Houses. Houses are made of End Stone instead of Sandstone so they don't completely camouflage into the land.
And that's Sootopolis City, on the surface at least, complete.
CAVE OF ORIGIN
(Image sourced from Bulbapedia)
The Cave of Origin is behind the gym of Sootopolis City. It leads down underground where in the Gameboy game you can catch the versions legendary pokemon. As this is based on Ruby Version there will be a lava pit at the bottom of the cave as the legendary Pokemon is Groudon.
Non-original staris lead down underneath Sootopolis City. It has to bee deep underground and turned the other way as it it was higher and not so deep it would intersect the underwater area of Route 126 therefore flooding the cave.
Now is when I start wishing I had put more than 10 layers of stone and dirt before the bedrock. There is not enough space to have the entire Cave of Origin and on top of that all the rooms will need to be 2 blocks high to try and get an extra floor in which wouldn't be possible if the rooms were 3 blocks high.
Here is a screenshot from MCEdit showing you the problem. There is only about 12 blocks from the highest point possible fro construction to the bedrock. Not enough. If I ever make another Pokemon Region it will have at least 50, yes, 50 blocks between sea level and the bedrocks.
The lowermost room. Again it could have been better but there is not enough room. That lava is literally on the bedrock that stops it going into the void.
But one thing that can be kept real is the dark caves that require you light them up yourself just like in the Gameboy game.
With a night vision potion you can see all the wild 'Zubat' spawning.
You may have notices some redstone ore. This is in an attempt to look like rubys that are scattered along the walls within the Cave of Origin.
SOOTOPOLIS CITY GYM
(Image sourced from Bulbapedia)
The last gym to be constructed. Sootopolis City gym is an Ice type gym and is where the player obtains their 8th badge. Unfortunately this gym suffers from the same problem as the Cave of Origin. Not enough space.
We'll see what the best we can do is.
In the gameboy game these are ice tiles that the player can walk on once. The player must walk on all the tiles once only and end up at the staircase that leads them to the next puzzle. Stepping on a tile twice will send them to a room below where they will find some eager trainers awaiting battle.
There is no room below as there is not enough space above or below the main room.
The puzzles get more complex and larger in size the more you progress.
The gym leader area.
Finished. But just imagine if the floor was transparent and you could see the room below. Imagine that. It would be amazing.

Mossdeep City (left) and Sootopolis City (right).
Wide angle view.
Typical house.
The stairs that let you access the Cave of Origin. Eagle eyes viewers may have seen that in the earler screenshots some layer are missing. That's because they are. They weren't terribly important and they would not have fit.
The sun setting over the city.
Progress so far.
Stay tuned and subscribe.
