Minecraft Hoenn: Part 29/43: Mossdeep City

Part 29/43 of the creation of the Hoenn Region in Minecraft.

Mossdeep City is the first of the four cities that are off the mainland. Mossdeep City is an island city with the usual Pokemon centre and mart, a gym and a space centre. Construction was paused for a few days because of family things and I got carried away with a new game I bought. But once construction resumed I wasn't stopping until it was finished. I don't know if anyone is reading this or just looking at the pictures so lets begin.

Mossdeep city is an island that is about 200 blocks wide. There is an area to the west that is under shallow water and the stairs that lead to the city are only accessible by walking thorough the shallow area.

Layers and layers and layers to make the mainland. I couldn't be bothered to take screenshots of the separate layers as I usually do. But hey.

Sandy paths and convenience centres cloned from the nearest cities.

MOSSDEEP GYM
Mossdeep Gym presented a unique challenge. As these gyms are usually built underground to the north of the gym it would have been difficult with Mossdeep gym as behind the gym are cliffs and behind that is ocean. So the gym would either be built in the traditional manner with extensive and ugly modification to the landscape. Not to mention the intrusion into Shoal Cave which would likely  conflict with each other.  OR I could build the gym to the south by building a U-turn staircase. This avoids the landscape modification but the gym still needs to be deep underground as it still will extend under the ocean.

The interior is 40x56 blocks with a ceiling 5 blocks high. Why 5 blocks instead of the usual 3? well there are walkways that require additional headroom and 3 blocks isn't good enough.

Walls.

Walkways. Unfortunately I haven't found a way to make the walkways dictate the direction of travel for the player. The tiles in the gameboy game have arrows on them and once stepped on the player is pushed one tile in that direction against their will.

 Walkways sans arrows.

When you walk into the gym you are presented with this unique staircase. I think that I will use this technique to build the gym in Sootopolis city. But to the east or west or south. We'll see later.

Houses.

Houses everywhere.

MOSSDEEP SPACE CENTRE
Mossdeep Space Centre is a unique location to Mossdeep City. That's pretty much all I have to say about it. Check the link for information.

Here's the second floor. I forgot to take a screenshot of the first floor. But you can check it out for yourself in the save game download.

And there it is. All finished.

Minecraft Hoenn: Part 28/43: Route 124

Part 28/43 of the creation of the Hoenn Region in Minecraft.

Route 124 is the largest route in all of the Pokemon games in terms of area. It is a water route with two parts. Above water and underwater. Constructing it took a while because as usual I had other things on but, it turned out perfect. Route 124 feels so far from home in the Gameboy game as in it feels like another world. It's so expansive that I still get lost when playing that route on the Gameboy. I'm thinking that after I've finished this project that I'll then get the remake of Ruby. Omega Ruby. So the sooner the better I suppose.

ROUTE 124
Route 124 is the largest route of any Pokemon game. It measures 160x160 blocks and links Lilycove City to Mossdeep City. It also joins route 126 to the south.

Big job ahead but it's got to be done.

I've split the route up into three parts. Northern, Southern and underwater. First the northern part. It consists of rocks and clay. But that's all there is in a water route. Making it took some time as each rock has to be placed one by one in the correct place otherwise it will be wrong. If one rock is out of place it could upset the rest of the route.

 Hey look! It's done already.

Now the southern part.

The southern part is a bit more complicated than the northern part as it has larger rocks.

Hey look! It's done already.

That's the over water area complete. The largest route in the Pokemon world is semi-complete.

 UNDERWATER
The underwater part was quite a bit trickier than the overworld. Why? well it was dark underground. Those bats that are in Minecraft were always in the way, as they serve no other purpose. But the openings that allow entry into from the overworld to underwater were perfectly aligned which was a huge added bonus.

To build the underground area all water was removed. This was to make it easier to place the entry points in the correct place as I could see.

It began raining but it will take a lot of rain to fill route 124 back up again.

The entry points all in the correct place.

An underground area lit with torches. Later on I'll use night vision potions which is what you'll need to do when you play the map as the underwater areas are all unlit.

An area flooded with water. For demonstration purposes. I cleared the water out soon after.

More underground area.

The spruce leaves are a stand in for seaweed. Grass does not like being placed under water.

I removed the top layer of dirt so you can see the tunnels. The tunnels will be covered up in the finished and preview world.

The Hunters house. Here, a person trades shards for evolution stones. The house is cloned from the Berry Master's house as they share the same exterior. The interior has been changed to match the Hunters house.

The Hunters house and an island.

The entrance holes are clearly visible which is a good thing.

An underwater area.
